Runway closure at Chicago’s Midway airport could cause flight delays and cancellations
The Chicago Department of Aure could leave flights canceled or delayed.

CHICAGO (WLS) –A runway at Chicago Midway International Airport is now closed for safety repairs.

They are fixing what is called an Engineered Material Arresting System. It’s a bed of crushable material designed to stop a plane that overshoots the runway on landing.
That system matters at Midway, where the runways are shorter than the ones at O’Hare.
The Federal Airports across the country, and it has safely stopped more than 20 aircraft that overran a runway
The runway closure could cause flight delays and cancellations.
“The extent of these disruptions will vary based on airline schedules and weather conditions, particularly wind direction, which affects how the airport’s four-runway network can be used for arrivals and departures,” the CDA said in a statement, in part.
Repairs are expected to be finished by mid-November. Until then, the city is asking travelers to check their flight status and talk with their airline before heading to the airport
