The Kingy verdict
If you need one creative workspace, start with Runway. It combines capable generation with editing, references, transformation and production exports. If you are building through an API, start your bake-off with Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash; Google now recommends it as the default video model, while Veo 3.1 remains useful when you need its specific controls.
Those are starting points, not universal winners. Adobe Firefly is the more defensible enterprise choice when governance dominates. Luma Ray3.2 is the specialist for professional video-to-video and HDR. Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 are the long-reference and value challengers. MiniMax H3 is the open-weights pick. HeyGen and Synthesia win a different job: presenter video at scale.
Don’t buy from a leaderboard alone.
A model can win a blind beauty contest and still fail your product shot, legal review, latency target or edit workflow. Shortlist by job, then run the same six prompts and references through every finalist.

What do 10 generated seconds cost?
This normalizes public per-second API prices to 10 generated seconds. It is arithmetic, not a promise that every route can return one 10-second clip: Gemini API’s Veo 3.1, for example, supports 4-, 6- or 8-second output, with 1080p and 4K limited to eight seconds. Resolutions, audio, reference inputs and model classes also differ. Dollar amounts are US dollars. The table excludes failed attempts, taxes, storage, editing and subscription minimums. Vidu’s US-dollar rate could not be reconfirmed, so no dollar total is shown. Pika’s cited text-to-video endpoint produces five-second clips; its 10-second total means two clips.
| Model / route | Comparable mode | Rate | 10 seconds | What the number omits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vidu Q3 Turbo | 720p reference-to-video, normal / off-peak | US$ rate unverified | Not calculated | Current docs list 10 / 5 credits per second and an RMB credit price; no US-dollar conversion or rights assumption |
| Veo 3.1 Lite | Agent Platform, 720p, no audio | $0.03 sec | $0.30 normalized | Different product surface from Gemini API; Preview status and clip limits |
| Pika 2.5 API | 720p text-to-video, 5-sec endpoint | $0.04 sec | $0.40 normalized | Two 5-second clips; $10/month API membership excluded; API agreement applies |
| MiniMax H3 | 768p | $0.08 sec | $0.80 | Reference input charges and retries |
| Wan 3.0 Standard | Singapore Standard, 720p list price | $0.10 sec | $1.00 | Input-video seconds also billed; Singapore output-only example; region, Prime and discounts differ |
| Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash | 720p | ≈ $0.10 sec | ≈ $1.00 | Token-billed output estimate; input tokens and optional processing cost extra |
| Veo 3.1 Fast | Agent Platform, 1080p, no audio | $0.10 sec | $1.00 normalized | Different product surface from Gemini API; audio costs more |
| Runway Gen-4.5 | Base output: 12 credits/sec; $0.01/credit | $0.12 sec | $1.20 | ProRes/PNG adds $0.05/sec; HDR, 10-bit or EXR adds $0.20/sec, or $0.40 above roughly 4K; plan limits apply |
| Grok Imagine Video 1.5 | 720p | $0.14 sec | $1.40 | Image input, retries and editing |
| Seedance 2.5 via Runway API | 720p output | $0.30 sec | $3.00 | Input/reference video adds $0.15/sec at 720p; 80-credit minimum; direct routes differ |
| Veo 3.1 Standard | Agent Platform, 1080p with audio | $0.40 sec | $4.00 normalized | Gemini API clip-length limits; retries and production work |
The useful metric is cost per approved second. A $1 generation is not cheap if ten attempts fail product fidelity. Track generated cost, usable seconds, edit time and approval rate together. For a real campaign budget, run 20–30 attempts per finalist before you commit.

Best AI video generators in 2026, by job
“Best for” is more honest—and more useful—than pretending one system wins every production brief.
Best generation APIGemini Omni 1.1 Flash
Google’s default general-purpose video model: native audio-video, multimodal references, conversational edits and output up to 4K.
Generation is only one layer. Gen-4.5, Aleph 2, references, keyframes, assets and professional exports make it the strongest complete workspace.
Best premium shot controlsGoogle Veo 3.1
Check the serving platform before choosing Veo. Google lists October 22, 2026 as the earliest shutdown date for the Gemini API’s Veo 3.1 preview variants and recommends stable Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash. Separate Google Cloud routes have their own availability and prices.

The tools, with the tradeoffs left in
1. Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash: best general-purpose generation API
3–10 secondsNative audio-video360p–4KMultimodal references
Use the stable gemini-omni-1.1-flash model, released August 27, 2026. Google’s model card now labels gemini-omni-flash-preview as shut down; its deprecation table lists October 22, 2026. Omni supports 3–10-second native audio-video, reference inputs and conversational editing; its 1080p and 4K outputs use upscaling. Match the model ID and output mode to the current price card.
Choose it if: you are building an application or testing one Google model across ideation, generation and edits. Skip it if: you need a mature dedicated editing workspace or a long track record under your exact workload.
Evidence: Google’s Omni model page, video generation overview and API pricing. Additional
2. Runway: best complete filmmaking suite
Gen-4.5Aleph 2 V2VWeb + APIProfessional exports
Runway wins the workspace category because it treats generated footage as material to direct and edit. Gen-4.5 handles text- and image-to-video. Aleph 2 transforms 2–30-second bit depth and ProRes, PNG and EXR output options. One API credit equals $0.01, but professional formats cost extra: ProRes/PNG adds five credits per second; HDR, 10-bit or EXR adds 20 credits per second, or 40 credits above roughly 4K
Choose it if: your team needs to iterate, edit, organize and deliver—not merely download a striking clip. Skip it if: raw per-second price is the overriding requirement or you only need presenter videos.
3. Veo 3.1: best premium generation controls
Preview in Gemini API4 / 6 / 8-sec API clipsGemini API audio always onProduct-surface differences
At the October 23 check, Google’s deprecation table listed October 22 for veo-3.1-generate-preview, veo-3.1-fast-generate-preview and veo-3.1-lite-generate-preview. Google qualifies these as the earliest possible shutdown dates and recommends gemini-omni-1.1-flash. Avoid a new dependency on those preview IDs. Google Cloud’s separate Veo routes need their own availability, region, control and price check.
Choose it if: you need those specific controls, premium output modes or a Google Cloud production path. Skip it if: you expect one-shot perfection or have not budgeted for retries.
Evidence: Google DeepMind’s Veo page, Gemini API Veo guide and Google Cloud Agent Platform pricing. Product availability is surface-specific; quality language on the model page is Google’s claim, not Kingy testing. Additional
4. Adobe Firefly: best commercially cautious enterprise path
Adobe model + partner modelsCreative CloudEnterprise options
Adobe’s advantage is governance, not simply a prettier shot. Adobe says its own Firefly models are trained on licensed Adobe Stock and public-domain material, not customer content or indiscriminate web scraping. Eligible enterprise features can include IP indemnity. Firefly also brokers models from Google, Kling, Luma and others inside an Adobe workflow.
Choose it if: your brand already works in Creative Cloud and legal review is central. Skip it if: you assume Adobe’s training-data and indemnity position automatically applies to every third-party model in Firefly—it does not.
5. Luma Ray3.2: best professional video-to-video and HDR pipeline
Ray3.2 is built arounde-level direction, HDR and 16-bit EXR. Ray3.14 remains Luma’s general generation path with native 1080p and up to 18-second modification, while native audio was not confirmed in the linked documentation
Choose it if: you have performances or plates worth preserving and need controllable transformation. Skip it if: you need confirmed native dialogue generation or assume every Ray version has the same controls. Luma’s current price page lists Plus, Pro and Ultra, while its licensing guide still names Free/Lite and Plus/Unlimited/Enterprise. The guide’s Free/Lite noncommercial and watermark restrictions are legacy-plan guidance; confirm the terms attached to your current plan.
Evidence: Ray3.2 announcement, Ray3.2 API overview, Ray3.14 and Luma licensing. Additional
6. Seedance 2.5: best long-form multimodal reference model
Up to 30 secondsNative audio-videoMany reference assetsTimestamp edits
Seedance 2.5 can use as many as 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio references, generate up to 30 seconds in one pass and extend clips across rounds. It is the clearest example of the market moving from short prompt demos toward reference-led production.
Choose it if: duration, references and controlled revisions matter more than having the simplest western self-serve product. Check access before purchase: the BytePlus availability list does not include the United States and says eligibility is determined at purchase. The full video-service terms were not readable in this review; do not infer commercial permission from the launch page.
Evidence: ByteDance’s Seedance 2.5 launch, current BytePlus access and video service terms. Capability descriptions are vendor-reported.
7. Wan 3.0: best value production API
Up to 30 seconds480p–1080pText/image/video/audio refsFrom $0.05/sec list
Wan 3.0 supports multimodal references and output up to 30 seconds. Singapore Standard list prices are $0.05, $0.10 and $0.20 per second at 480p, 720p and 1080p before temporary discounts; other regions and Prime have separate rates. Billing includes input-video seconds plus successfully generated output seconds. A ten-second 720p output therefore costs $1.00 at the Singapore list rate only when no billable input video is supplied. Alibaba’s Model Studio terms say it does not claim output ownership and will not use customer content to improve its models without separate consent.
Choose it if: you need production-scale economics without giving up reference workflows. Skip it if: your release requires confirmed GA support or your budget assumes one global rate. The official API reference still labels Wan 3.0 preview. Confirm the model, region, input-video billing and any temporary discount.
Evidence: Wan 3.0 Prime, Model Studio pricing and Alibaba Cloud terms. Additional
8. MiniMax H3: best open-weights video model
Open weights at 768pHosted regeneration up to 2KNative stereo audioMultimodal references
H3 couples synchronized stereo sound with text, image, video and audio context. MiniMax released H3-Base weights on August 3 at a 768-pixel short edge; the hosted Context-IR and 2K regeneration stages were not released. The distinction matters. The official repository is roughly 498 GB, and infrastructure, safety and inference remain your responsibility.
Choose it if: open weights, customization or data control justify the operational burden and the licence covers your deployment territory. Skip it if: you are deploying the open release in the EU, UK, US or South Korea without separate permission. Products above the stated $20 million annual-revenue threshold require authorization, and products must visibly identify MiniMax H3.
9. Kling: the 3.0
3–15 seconds720p / 1080pNative audioElements + voice binding
Kling 3.0 supports multi-shot generation, first and last frames, recurring elements, voice binding and native audio. Those controls make it an obvious test for product shots, recurring characters and cinematic social work.
Choose it if: references and shot control matter more than a simple API bill. Skip it if: you assume direct Kling and Runway API pricing or contracts are interchangeable. Runway lists Kling 3.0 Standard at $0.09/second silent or $0.13 with audio, Pro at $0.12/$0.17, and 4K at $0.43 with or without audio. These use Runway’s $0.01/API-credit conversion. Kling’s own paid-service terms, effective October 10, permit members’ commercial output use with restrictions and take precedence over conflicting general terms; do not extend those membership rules to every API contract.
Evidence: Kling 3.0 official model guide. Additional paid-service terms and general terms
10. Vidu Q3 Turbo: native audio and multi-speaker generation
Up to 16 secondsNative audio720p / 1080pOff-peak pricing
Vidu Q3 combines native audio, scene cuts and multi-speaker output. The current pricing documentation lists credits and an RMB credit price; the earlier US-dollar figures could not be reconfirmed and have been removed. Q3 Turbo reference-to-video at 720p lists 10 credits per second normally or 5 off-peak, with off-peak eligibility tied to audio. Obtain a quote for your account, currency and mode. Vidu now lists Q4 Preview separately; this row and its cited capabilities cover Q3.
Choose it if: you need native-audio or multi-speaker variants and can measure approval rate against a current quote. Skip it if: your commercial-rights review depends on documentation that is clearer than Vidu’s current public material.
Evidence: Vidu Q3 and official API pricing.
11–12. Pika and Grok Imagine: useful challengers, not universal winners
Pika 2.5 is an option for short clips and effects. Its current text-to-video API returns five-second clips at 720p or 1080p. The 720p rate is $0.04 per second, plus the API Club’s $10 monthly membership. Pika Create is billed separately: its current pricing page marks Creator and Fancy as commercial plans, while Free and Starter exclude a commercial license. The older FAQ uses different plan names. The API site describes commercial output rights under its API agreement; check the terms for the product you use.
Grok Imagine Video 1.5 offers text, image and audio inputs, generation up to 15 seconds and 480p, 720p and 1080p API output. It makes the most sense for teams already using xAI; primaryver the category winners above
Why Sora is no longer one of the best picks
Do not start a new production dependency on Sora. OpenAI discontinued the Sora web and app product on April 26, 2026. OpenAI’s current model documentation confirms that the Sora 2 models and Videos API shut down on September 24, 2026 and are no longer available. OpenAI provides no one-to-one replacement API.
For an existing Sora workflow, follow OpenAI’s available export guidance for retained assets and test your prompts, references and delivery requirements on a supported replacement. Do not assume an old Sora API integration still works.
What the October 23 blind leaderboard snapshot tells us
At the October 23 check, Artificial Analysis’s AA-Video-T2V v2.1 overall leaderboard with audio placed Wan 3.0 at 1175 ±15, Utopai X at 1167 ±15, and HeyGen Video 1 at 1160 ±15. MiniMax H3 (768p) and Dreamina Seedance 2.5 both scored 1158 ±15. The leading confidence intervals overlap. Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 was tenth at 1130 ±14. These are external preference scores, separate from Kingy testing.
The v2.1 update changes the model roster and uncertainty calculation while retaining the v2 prompt sets. Ratings use blind comparisons by validated private evaluators and are recalculated hourly. Changes from the September snapshot do not establish a controlled performance trend. This board includes derived models and research previews: Utopai X has no API listed, while HeyGen Video 1 now has an API price. Check availability, rights, reliability and cost per approved take separately.

The planner prepares a job; it does not prove a generator can finish it
Choose the shot you need before choosing a subscription: its subject, motion, camera, reference inputs, duration, aspect ratio and audio. Two generators are only comparable when they are trying to deliver the same usable output.
- Write one brief and a short acceptance checklist. Include subject consistency, motion, unwanted changes and audio requirements.
- Set a spending limit before generating. Count failed attempts, credits, upscaling and any paid editing needed to obtain the finished shot.
- Keep settings and source media with each result. Judge the exported clip, not just the preview or the advertised generation price.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI video generator in 2026?
Runway is the best all-round creative workspace. Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash is the strongest general API starting point. The right specialist may be a separately verified Google Cloud Veo route for premium controls, Firefly for governance, Ray3.2 for video-to-video, Seedance for long reference-led clips, Wan for value or H3 for open weights.
Is Sora still available?
The consumer product and API have closed. OpenAI closed the Sora web/app product on April 26, 2026. Its current model documentation confirms that the Sora 2 models and Videos API shut down on September 24, 2026. There is no one-to-one replacement API.
Which AI video generator is cheapest?
There is no single cheapest route. Veo 3.1 Lite on Google Cloud Agent Platform lists $0.03 per second for 720p without audio. Pika 2.5 text-to-video lists $0.04 per second at 720p, plus $10/month API membership. Vidu’s current US-dollar rate was not confirmed. Compare the same mode, resolution, audio, subscription fees and approved-output rate.
Which model is best for commercial use?
No model makes every use legally safe. Adobe Firefly’s own model offers the clearest licensed-data story, and eligible enterprise workflows can include indemnity. Runway expressly allows commercial use and says users retain ownership. Every provider still requires lawful inputs and outputs, and partner-model terms can differ.
Which AI video tool is best for YouTube and social media?
Use Runway when you need a repeatable edit workflow; Pika for effects-led hooks; Wan for inexpensive variants; Vidu for multi-speaker clips after checking its quote; and a separately verified Google Cloud Veo route or stable Gemini Omni for polished hero shots. YouTube performance depends more on the script, pacing and edit than on the generator name.
Should I use text-to-video, image-to-video or video-to-video?
Use text-to-video for open exploration, image-to-video when composition or identity matters, and video-to-video when you already have valuable motion or performance. Product and character work usually becomes more reliable as you supply stronger references.
Can an AI video generator make a whole film?
It can make shots and short connected sequences. Long-form identity, continuity, dialogue, pacing and rights review still require direction, editing and human approval. Treat current tools as production systems, not an autonomous film crew.

The bottom line
Pick a production system, not a famous model name. Start with Runway for a creative workspace or Gemini Omni for an API. Add the specialist that fits the risk: a separately verified Google Cloud Veo route for shot controls, Firefly for governance, Luma forfor value and Vidu for multi-speaker clips after a current quote, H3 for open weights, and HeyGen or Synthesia for presenter video
Then run the six-shot test with your assets. The winner is the tool that reaches an approved cut at the lowest total cost—not the one that wins a demo reel.

Buying details checked October 22, 2026:Haiper buying profile: A successful HTTP response with an empty interface does not establish current service access. Do not rely on old free credits or subscription prices. Deforum buying profile: Dependencies, model weights and integrated components have separate licenses. A local extension is not a managed GPU plan or a current Replicate endpoint guarantee. HitFilm Express buying profile: An old tutorial or third-party download does not establish activation, support or a valid new license. Preserve existing projects and export through a working licensed setup. The original article keeps its existing dates and evidence scope; the linked profiles describe their own demonstrations.
